New Day: A Song

A New Day, www.tracingabby.com

Very simply stated, this is a song I wrote about depression; Acknowledging it, dealing with it, and trying to get out of it. I wouldn’t consider myself a depressed person. Honestly, many people would tell you that I’m one of the happiest people they know, and for the most part, they would be right. But I am very much human, and I have my sad days, and sometimes a little more than a bad case of the blues. Recently, I was able to help pull myself out of one of these moody times by writing this song. It’s maybe a little cheesy, because I really wrote it for myself, but after it was finished, I realized that maybe it could benefit some other sad people in the world. If it doesn’t, that’s fine too; helping one person, me, is good enough.

(Please keep in mind that this isn’t a finished mixed or mastered recording. It is literally a drum loop and midi parts that I threw together in my loft. I just wanted to put it out there as soon as possible.)

New Day

Written and performed by Abby Berman

Can you fix it?

Can you fix me?

Happiness is so hard to see.

And I miss it

I think it misses me.

Did you find it?

Did it get you?

Did it catch and pull you through?

Did you make all your thoughts

Bright, shiny and new?

Because I know you’ve been through this a time or two

But it’s new to me and I don’t know what to do.

My heart is heavy

My head is torn.

The world is cloudy and ready to storm.

I swear the people around me

Wish I had never been born.

And I know you’ve been through this a time or two

But it’s new to me, tell me what am I going to do?

I can just imagine

How good it’s going to be

When it holds it’s arms out

And says Where have you been?

I can’t see it clearly

But I know it’s right in front of me

Pulling me in…

Ready to begin…

A new day.

Did you feel it?

Can you tell?

I’m waking up

I’m shaking the spell.

I swear I ‘m looking up from where I fell.

And I know you’ve been through this a time or two

And it tastes so sweet, you found your way out of this hell.

I can just imagine

How good it’s going to be

When it holds it’s arms out

And says Where have you been?

I can’t see it clearly

But I know it’s right in front of me

Pulling me in…

Ready to begin…

I can just imagine

How good it’s going to be

When it holds it’s arms out

And says Where have you been?

I can’t see it clearly

But I know it’s right in front of me

Pulling me in…

Ready to begin…

And maybe this happens to most.

The Me I once was is a ghost.

After all of the feelings have felt their way out,

What’s left to stay

Is a new day.

I can just imagine

How good it’s going to be

When it holds it’s arms out

And says Where have you been?

I can’t see it clearly

But I know it’s right in front of me

Pulling me in…

Ready to begin…

I can just imagine

How good it’s going to be

When it holds it’s arms out

And says Where have you been?

I can’t see it clearly

But I know it’s right in front of me

Pulling me in…

Ready to begin…

A new day.

xoxo,

Abby
